PHD candidate - fluid transport through graphene-based composite materials

Last updated on Fri 22/07/2022 - 14:54

A PhD position regarding fluid transport through graphene based composite materials is available within the Soft matter, Fluidics and Interfaces group. This project will be performed within the FLAG-ERA Joint Transnational program. Partner groups within this consortium will focus on the fabrication of graphene based materials. The candidate will experimentally explore fundamental (aqueous) fluidic and ion transport through graphene based materials and couple these observations to numerical models. The experimentations are carried out on tailored microfluidic devices and the scientific results will enhance the understanding of nanofluid transport phenomena.

Candidates must have a Master’s degree, preferably with distinction (or international equivalent) in Applied (Fluid) Physics, Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline; Good knowledge/demonstrated awareness of fluid and ionic transport phenomena as well as interfacial phenomena. Experience in using (micro)fluidic devices is desired, as well as some prior involvement with cleanroom fabrication processes. Applicants must also possess good knowledge/demonstrated awareness of (numerical) modeling. Excellent analysis skills and an analytical mind-set, as well as excellent communication skills, including written. English language proficiency is a must and a written test will be part of the interview procedure. In addition, an ability to work independently and as a member of a research team is required. A collaborative attitude is strongly desired.

This is a very challenging fulltime position for four years in an inspiring multidisciplinary and international environment. In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) the gross monthly salary ranges from € 2.125,- in the first year to € 2.717,- in the fourth year. Additionally, the University of Twente provides excellent facilities for professional and personal development, a holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus, and a number of additional benefits.
