GIT Coatings launches graphene-enhanced coating for efficient maritime operations

GIT Coatings has announced the launch of XGIT-FORCE, a graphene-based hard foul-release coating designed to enhance marine vessel efficiency while supporting sustainable operations. The innovative solution is reportedly biocide-free, zero-leaching, and engineered to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without releasing harmful chemicals or microplastics into the marine environment.

XGIT-FORCE aims to provide a measurable impact on vessel performance, offering fuel savings of up to 10% compared with traditional antifouling coatings. By maintaining smoother hull surfaces and reducing drag, ships can operate more efficiently, lowering operational costs while meeting growing environmental and regulatory demands in the shipping industry.

 

At the heart of XGIT-FORCE is GIT Coatings’ proprietary Dynamic Phase Engineered Technology (DPET). This advanced system combines surface chemistry innovation with graphene-enhanced mechanical tuning to create a dynamic, amphiphilic barrier that resists biofilm formation. The result is a foul-release surface that maintains consistent performance across diverse marine environments.

Graphene reinforcement strengthens the coating, allowing it to withstand challenging conditions such as ice friction, fender impacts, and repeated cleaning. The ultra-smooth surface minimizes hull resistance, delivering an estimated six percent out-of-dock power gain compared to premium biocidal antifouling coatings.
