Graphene Manufacturing Group secures US patent, China approval for its graphene-enhanced lubricant

Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG) has announced that it has secured a 20-year US patent and received approval in China for its graphene-based engine oil additive, G LUBRICANT, marking a further step in the company’s efforts to establish international intellectual property protection for the product.

The company said the latest developments build on a previously accepted patent covering the European region, with applications in several other countries still under review.

"This is great progress to secure the valuable graphene lubricant patent for engine oil use in the major markets of Europe, China and the USA,” GMG CEO Craig Nicol said in a statement.

Jack Perkowski, GMG chairman, added: "Congratulations to the team on progressing further with building their competitive position in securing patents in the most valuable markets for G LUBRICANT.”

G LUBRICANT is described by the company as a graphene liquid concentrate additive designed to improve the performance and efficiency of both diesel and petrol engines. According to the company, the additive can be mixed with standard engine oils at a ratio of 1:100, resulting in a final graphene concentration of approximately 1:10,000.

Testing conducted over several years, including verification by the University of Queensland, indicated that the additive may improve fuel efficiency in diesel engines by up to 8.4%. The company also stated that field testing with customers has produced similar results.

Graphene Manufacturing Group indicated it plans to focus initially on the diesel segment, which it described as a business-to-business market with more direct incentives for fuel cost reduction. The company cited estimates that global diesel fuel sales totaled approximately US$1.4 trillion annually, based on data from the US Energy Information Administration.

Based on internal assumptions, including pricing the additive at a fraction of the fuel savings achieved, the company estimates a potential global market opportunity of around US$1.2 billion annually for G LUBRICANT.
