Levidian launches NanoFlow-S1-20, a drop-in graphene additive for solvent-based paints and coatings

Levidian has launched NanoFlow-S1-20, the first product in its new NanoFlow range of graphene dispersions, designed to make it faster and easier for the coatings industry to evaluate and adopt graphene in existing solvent-based formulations.

NanoFlow-S1-20 is a high-concentration coating additive containing 20 wt.% of Levidian's G3 graphene, pre-dispersed in xylene. It is designed as a drop-in solution that can be blended using standard paint mixing equipment, either into Part A of a two-part coating system or directly into a one-part formulation. The aim is to remove one of the persistent barriers to graphene adoption in coatings: incorporating high-quality graphene consistently and efficiently without formulators having to develop their own dispersion processes from scratch.

Potential benefits of incorporating G3 graphene into solvent-based coatings include improved barrier properties against air, hydrogen, moisture and other chemical species; enhanced corrosion protection; lower friction coefficients and anti-fouling properties for reduced drag in air or marine applications; improved flame retardancy and UV stability; and the potential to reformulate coatings with reduced heavy-metal content and a smaller environmental footprint. Levidian positions NanoFlow-S1-20 for a broad range of solvent-based coating applications, spanning protective industrial coatings, marine paints, and infrastructure, energy and transport uses.

"Graphene has demonstrated significant potential to improve coating performance, but achieving a consistent, stable dispersion has often required specialist knowledge and additional development work. We created NanoFlow-S1-20 to remove that complexity," said Nasir Macadam, Principal Engineer at Levidian. "Customers can simply add the product into their existing solvent-based coating formulations using conventional mixing equipment and begin evaluating the benefits of graphene much more quickly. Whether you're a paint manufacturer developing the next generation of high-performance coatings or an asset owner looking to assess performance improvements in your existing coating systems, NanoFlow-S1-20 provides a straightforward route to incorporating graphene."

NanoFlow-S1-20 marks the start of Levidian's broader NanoFlow product family, which the company intends to expand with application-ready graphene dispersions tailored to different chemistries and end-use markets. The underlying G3 graphene is produced using Levidian's patented LOOP technology, which converts methane into hydrogen and graphene through a low-temperature microwave plasma process; LOOP's modular design allows for regional production close to demand, which Levidian says strengthens supply security while reducing the environmental impact of transporting the material.

NanoFlow-S1-20 is available for customer evaluation and product development programs.
