ICN2 is an international centre for research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. It is looking for a candidate to be employed as a PhD student hosted by the ICN2 Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices (Prof. J. Garrido) and the Physics and Engineering of NanoDevices (Prof. S. Valenzuela) groups.
This PhD research project aims at the integration of graphene and MoS2 technologies for the development of a new generation of flexible electronic devices. The PhD candidate will be working on the preparation of high quality, large area MoS2 by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Once the growth and transfer technology is developed, the project will focus on the fabrication and characterization of flexible MoS 2 -based field-effect transistors. In a final stage, the project will aim at the integration of both graphene and MoS2 technologies. The final goal will be the demonstration of a flexible electronic hybrid composed of a first level of sensing elements based on graphene and a second level of electronics based on an array of MoS 2 transistors.
These fellowships are offered by “MINECO” as part of a Programme to support the Severo Ochoa Excellence Centers, a top level network of centers awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Estimated starting dates of these projects are January/February 2016 and expected duration is 4 years.
Applicants must show great motivation, excellent attitude towards research and teamwork, and good communication skills; a good level of the English language is mandatory. A strong background on materials science, semiconductor devices and physics as well as knowledge in experimental methods (material deposition a characterization) will be valued. The candidate should have a BSc and Master’s degree in Physics, Material Science, Engineering or relevant studies. The requirements established by MINECO to apply to these calls 2015 are: i) the candidate has to be admitted in a Doctoral Program by the time the contract is formalised; ii) candidates who already started their PhD with an FPI fellow, are not eligible; iii) candidates who already have a PhD are not eligible; iv) candidates that had a Doctoral Contract for more than 12 months by the application submission time, are not eligible
