SHT (Smart High Tech)

Smart High Tech is a Swedish company focused on producing new heat-dissipating materials reinforced with graphene with a focus on cooling of CPUs, GPUs, Chiplets and other heat-intensive electronics devices. 

It offers high-performance graphene-enhanced materials and associated process know-how. One example of its tech is a graphene-enhanced “Thermal Interface Material”, called TIM, for electronics and power module cooling, which conducts heat efficiently both vertically and horizontally. TIM is found in SHT's GT-TIM® product series, which is available in different versions with different features.  

SHT sells its products to international electronics intensive companies in the BTB sector through partnership with Henkel via its Loctite brand and in the BTC business through partnership with Thermal Grizzly via its brand Kryosheet.

SHT launches new graphene-based product called GT50R

Chalmers University spin off, SHT Smart High-Tech, has launched a new graphene-based product called GT50R, designed for battery cooling and power electronics. GT50R is developed from recycled waste material. 

The product's properties are said to "open new market opportunities" for the company, particularly within battery cooling for electric vehicles and energy storage, as well as the cooling of complex power electronics: segments that demand higher mechanical performance than existing materials on the market can currently provide.

Researchers design a lightweight and highly efficient graphene heat pipe

Researchers at Sweden-based Chalmers University of Technology, in collaboration with researchers in China and Italy, have found that graphene-based heat pipes can help solve the problems of cooling electronics and power systems used in avionics, data centers, and other power electronics.

Electronics and data centers need to be efficiently cooled and rid of excess heat in order to function properly. Currently, heat pipes are usually made of copper, aluminum or their alloys. Due to the relatively high density and limited heat transmission capacity of these materials, heat pipes are facing severe challenges in future power devices and data centers.

Chalmers team demonstrated graphene films with higher thermal conductivity than that of graphite films

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, have developed a graphene assembled film that has over 60% higher thermal conductivity than graphite film despite the fact that graphite consists of many layers of graphene. The graphene film shows great potential as a novel heat spreading material for form-factor driven electronics and other high power-driven systems. The IP of the high-quality manufacturing process for the graphene film belongs to SHT Smart High Tech AB, a spin-off company from Chalmers, which is going to focus on the commercialization of the technology.

Until now, many scientists in the graphene research community have assumed that graphene assembled film cannot have higher thermal conductivity than graphite film. Single layer graphene has a thermal conductivity between 3500 and 5000 W/mK. If you put several graphene layers together, then it theoretically becomes graphite.
