Taiwan Carbon Materials Corporation (TCMC) has launched Carbonix Materials as its US subsidiary, establishing operations in New York State to build a domestic supply chain for advanced battery and thermal-management materials. The expansion is led by TCMC co-founder and CEO Dr. Yi-Jun Lin, with Binghamton, NY selected as the company’s US hub.
Founded in 2020, TCMC develops advanced carbon-based materials used in lithium-ion batteries, thermal management systems, and graphene films designed for heat dissipation. The company’s products are already in use by electronics manufacturers, energy storage developers, and research institutions across Asia and Europe, and its technology portfolio includes more than 45 patents.
The launch of Carbonix reflects TCMC’s response to shifting global trade dynamics, including tariffs and domestic sourcing requirements under the Inflation Reduction Act. These trends are increasing demand for locally sourced battery materials and creating opportunities to reduce reliance on China-centered supply chains. Through its US subsidiary, TCMC aims to address critical gaps in the supply of graphite and other advanced carbon materials.
Carbonix established its presence in Binghamton through the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator’s Soft Landing New York program, later joining its Clean Energy Incubator. The company has since built relationships with local partners including TYFAST and LiBama Power, and is collaborating with University at Buffalo researchers on Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) applications.
In its initial phase, Carbonix will export materials produced by TCMC while building a US customer base. Once it secures more than ten key customers, TCMC plans to establish a production facility near Binghamton. According to Dr. Lin, the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly, relying only on electricity and water and generating no waste pollution.
