US-based Carbon Research and Development Company (CRDC) produces graphene materials, derived from bio-mass. CRDC's materials are branded as Xphene.

In March 2019 The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority has closed $1.5 million loan to CRDC to fund its carbon R&D project at the Lonesome Pine Regional Business and Technology Park.
