Industrial scale & manufacturing: General Graphene

From the production side, General Graphene Corporation will present “From Lab to Line: Advancing Roll‑to‑Roll CVD Graphene Manufacturing,” highlighting how continuous CVD processes are moving graphene from pilot runs to industrially relevant throughput. This talk, led by Tuqeer Nasir, is highly relevant for anyone interested in cost, scalability and integration of CVD graphene into real products across electronics, coatings and composites.

A research team consisting of private sector and academic partners and led by NETL (a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory that drives innovation and delivers solutions for a clean and secure energy future) is working on a new ultra-conductive carbon (graphite and graphene) aluminum composite cable technology that could increase the electrical conductivity and strength of transmission cables leading to higher grid capacity and efficiency to accommodate future power generation demand.

In addition to NETL, the research team includes, Ohio University, MetalKraft Technologies, Frisk Alloy, Hydro Extensions, General Graphene Corporation and CONSOL Innovations.

Earlier this month, Hememics Biotechnologies, developer of a rapid handheld bio testing platform based on unique graphene-based sensors, raised a $2 million seed round to help build its “lab in a hand” tech. Now, Hememics Biotechnologies also entered into a strategic partnership with General Graphene Corporation, the culmination of a four-year collaborative effort to develop a scalable, non-clean-room process for the manufacturing of the company’s 32-plex, graphene biosensor chips. 

Combined with Hememics’ expertise in long-shelf-life detection biology, this partnership aims to revolutionize point-of-care diagnostics tools for pathogens and environmental toxins.

GrapheneDX, General Graphene Corporation and Sapphiros have announce a strategic partnership to industrialize graphene-based biosensors for medical devices used to diagnose a variety of diseases at the point-of-care and in consumer settings.

GrapheneDx is an in vitro diagnostics company focused on improving diagnostic capability at the point-of-care and in consumer settings. The company is an expert in functionalizing graphene to create graphene field effect transistors (GFETs), which are biosensors that can be used to detect disease in biological samples. GrapheneDx's medical devices are designed to provide lab-quality accuracy, deliver results in less than 5 minutes and be simple enough to be performed both at the point of care and by patients without the supervision of a medical professional. The company's GFET platform is versatile, demonstrating performance across a variety of disease states (sexually transmitted infections, respiratory disease, cardiac disease, concussion and others) and sample types (stool, urine, swabs, blood, etc.), with little or no sample preparation. Additionally, the platform is capable of multiplexing numerous analytes concurrently with a single patient sample. GrapheneDx's first tests will be for the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, including Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, using a noninvasive, easy to collect urine sample.

US-based CVD graphene developer General Graphene Corporation (GGC) has launched its new Gen3.0 CVD graphene production line. This 20-meters long roll-to-roll based system can produce single- and multi-layer graphene materials on copper films up to 400 mm wide.

GGC says that with the new line, its manufacturing capacity exceeds 100,000 m²/year. The company is now able to supply affordable and highly consistent CVD graphene in industrial volumes.

Graphite India's wholly owned subsidiary in the Netherlands, Graphite International BV, has signed an agreement for investment of up to US $18.595 million in multiple tranches in cash in General Graphene Corporation which would constitute approximately 46% stake in the Company.

General Graphene is involved in the development of Graphene sheets for commercial applications. The investment will be made in multiple tranches based on achievement of agreed milestones in the process of development and establishing manufacturing capabilities for the commercial production of Graphene sheets.

Startup funding network Angel Capital Group (ACG) is making a $8.7 million investment in Oak Ridge-based advanced materials startup General Graphene Corporation, an undertaking by a major entrepreneur in the Tennessee region.

The funding will allow GGC to produce the machine that will then in turn make the graphene. The first prototype will be built in Oak Ridge and enter pre-production. ACG and a syndication partner have extended General Graphene a term sheet for the entire round, and it will be completed by the end of the month.
