Research Associate in Graphene-Based High Frequency Devices and Electromagnetic Simulations

A position exists for a Research Associate to work on RF, microwave and THz devices and systems. The aim is to design, simulate, fabricate and test devices such as antennas, reflectarrays, absorbers and waveguides based on graphene and related materials.

Particular attention will be paid to antennas and antenna systems for application such as printed RFID and RF energy harvesting. The research will also include fundamental studies of high-frequency properties of graphene and related materials by transport measurements and scanning microwave microscopy (SMM).

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Nanotechnology or closely related disciplines. Essential requirement is a proven track record in design, measurements and modelling of high frequency devices, particularly antennas and meta-surfaces. Experience in electromagnetic simulation and design by software such as CST Microwave Studio and HFSS is essential. Hands-on experience on antenna measurements (including near field and anechoic chambers) and on-wafer testing by vector analysers is required. Experience in design and testing of mm-wave and THz devices is desired, as well as working knowledge of THz time domain spectroscopy.

Experience in handing collaborations within EU projects, including reporting and attendance to project meetings is highly desirable. The candidate will also have the ability continually update knowledge in the specialist area and engage in continuous professional development.
