The Sixth Element Materials Technology company, based in Chengzhou, China, is developing and producing graphene flakes, graphene oxide and related materials. The company also holds 30% of Wuxi Graphene Film, a CVD-graphene film maker based in Wuxi, China.
The company says their current graphene-powder production capacity is 100 tons per year, and they plan to increase it to 1,000 tons by the end of 2016. In July 2016 we interviewed the company's new Europrean sales manager on the company's technology and business. In October 2017 the company updated that its graphene-enhanced anti-corrosion coating has been deployed in bridges and other structures across China.

Huawei continues the use of graphene cooling films in its new P40 series
Huawei has launched its Huawei P40 flagship phone family, that includes three different devices: the Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro and, a new addition to the line-up for 2020, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus.

After many rumors about this line sporting a graphene battery - which were later disproved - it appears that Huawei's new P40 phones are using a graphene film cooling technology for heat management purposes (Huawei's SuperCool system), much like the Mate 20X and P30 line that preceded the P40.
Huawei Mate P30 Pro adopts a graphene-based heat management film
In October 2018, Huawei announced its Mate 20 X smartphone, which was a gaming smartphone that adopted a graphene film cooling technology for heat management purposes. Now, Huawei launched the Mate P30 Pro smartphone, that adopts a graphene film as well.

The Mate 20 X was a bit of a niche phone, but the P30 Pro is more mainstream one (even though it is quite expensive at around $1,200). Besides the graphene cooling film, the P30 Pro sports a 6.47" 1080x2340 flexible AMOLED display, an under-the-display fingerprint sensor, a Kirin 980 chipset, 6/8 GB of RAM, 64/128/256/512 GB of storage a Nano Memory card slot and a high-end quad-camera setup.
Grahope New Materials acquired 70% of Wuxi Graphene Film
Shenzhen-based Grahope New Materials (GNM) has acquired 70% of CVD graphene maker Wuxi Graphene Film from The Sixth Element Materials (who now holds 30% of WGF).
GNM focuses on the R&D of graphene heating technology and the development of graphene products in general. GNM adopts WGF's CVD graphene films in its products - for example in the graphene eye mask we recently reviewed at Graphene-Info.
Huawei starts shipping the Mate 20 X smartphone with its graphene film cooling technology
In October 2018 Huawei announced its Mate 20 X smartphone, which is a large gaming smartphone that adopts a graphene film cooling technology for heat management purposes. Huawei now started shipping the Mate 20 X in China and it can be bought in the US starting at $790 (note: affiliate link to Amazon).

Huawei states that its Mate 20 X features Huawei Supercool - "the world’s first liquid multi-dimensional cooling system with Vapor Chamber (VC) and Graphene Film used in smartphones". It reportedly conducts heat away fast, keeping the device cool even under heavy loads (as the device is touted as a gaming device).

Following the news on Huawei's Mate 20 X phone that will use graphene film cooling technology for heat management purposes, we have now found out that the graphene producer for this Huawei phone will be China-based The Sixth Element Materials.

The Sixth Element Materials will be providing the graphene product, out of the Company's current 260 tons/year capacity. However, as Huawei graphene requirements is estimated to take up almost all of TSEM's available capacity, TSEM is working on increasing its capacity to 1000 tons/year, and intends to be on stream around the beginning 2020 (but the dates are not yet finalized).

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has launched Mate 20 series, which includes the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X. In its Mate 20 X phone, the largest in the lineup with its 7.2-inch OLED display, Huawei uses “graphene film cooling technology” for heat management purposes.

Hydroton launches a graphene-enhanced anti-corrosion primer
Greece-based industrial paint producer Hydroton has launched a new graphene-enhanced zinc epoxy paint - the 23303 ZINCTON GNC. This is a two-component epoxy based coating that offers improved cathodic protection due to the addition of the graphene, compared to epoxy zinc rich primers.

The new primer also offers improved adhesion to metal and as the zinc content is low, it is still cost effective. It is recommended for applications in highly corrosive environments.
Graphene-enhanced anti-corrosion system deployed in bridges and wind power towers across China
China-based The Sixth Element Materials launched its graphene-zinc anti-corrosion primer back in 2015 together with his partner Toppen Technology, and the company has since performed extensive testing. TSE updates us that the material has now been deployed in China and has been used to cover several bridges and wind-turbines steel towers.

The Sixth Element graphene type SE1132 is added to Toppens 2k-epoxy primer system. TSE says that by adding 1% of graphene, one could reduce the zinc content in current anti-corrosion coatings from ~80% to 25%, and the the corrosion protection time is doubled. Reducing the zinc also means that this solution is less polluting. The main cost savings comes from the prolonged coating life which means that the time between coating renewal (which requires a lot of labor) is doubled.
The Sixth Element unveils graphene-enhanced tyres
The Sixth Element, a leading producer of graphene products based in China, supported its partner Shangdong Hengyu Technology Group, a leading Chinese tyre manufacturer, in developing tyre formulations proving the positive impact of graphene oxide on the performance of tyres as an example for rubber products.

Adding only a very small amount of The Sixth Elements’ SE2430 to the formulations of the tyre tread, the rate of tyre wear decreased by more than 25%, while tear strength was more than doubled. The Sixth Element Materials Technology presented the new developed heavy duty tyre Horizon HD type during the GRAPHCHINA 2016 conference.
The Sixth Element opens a European office, we talk with its new sales director
The Sixth Element Materials Technology is a Chengzhou, China based company that develops and produces graphene and graphene oxide materials. The company recently opened a sales office in Europe, and appointed Bernhard Münzing as sales director.
Bernhard was kind enough to participate in an interview with graphene-info. Bernhard is an industrial engineer with a focus on chemistry, who has held different positions in sales, materials management, marketing and business development in big as well as medium sized chemical companies.
Q: We understand that The Sixth Element (T6E) currently produces graphene flakes and graphene oxide, in a 100 ton/year plant in Chengzhou. Is that correct? Can you tell us anything regarding the current production plant?
