Concretene receives funding boost
Concretene has announced three successful UK government funding bids, two through Innovate UK, totaling £1.18 million (around USD$1,430,000), and one through EPSRC and the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials for £79,000 (about USD$95,000).
The product – a graphene-enhanced admixture for concrete that reduces embodied carbon – is being developed for commercial roll-out by Nationwide Engineering Research & Development and The University of Manchester. The grant awards relate to Concretene’s core research program, from raw material supply through to construction applications.
Graphene Composites and William Blythe announce supply of graphene oxide for ink coating that destroys pathogens
Graphene Composites (GC) and William Blythe have announced a partnership in William Blythe’s supply of graphene oxide for use in GC Halo, a unique coating for air filters that destroys viruses, bacteria and mold on contact.
GC Halo is a nanoparticle ink formulation, that destroys pathogens by forming a ‘trap and kill’ layer on air filters and has been independently verified to significantly reduce SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the air. Fast-acting, safe and more than 99% effective against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, Influenza, bacteria and mold, independent tests and certifications reportedly prove GC Halo’s capabilities as a filter coating.
William Blythe expands its graphene oxide capacity to 50 tonnes as demand increases
UK-based graphene Oxide developer William Blythe announced that as the company enjoys increasing demand for its graphene materials, it has scaled up its production from lab-scale to 50-tonne capacity.

William Blythe started to develop its graphene technologies in 2016, and started to supply small quantities of the material in 2016. The company since has been working with world-leading organizations to advance its technology and applications research.
NGI and William Blythe to collaborate on graphene-enhanced energy storage project
The NGI at The University of Manchester and William Blythe have announced the start of a new joint research project, targeting the development of high capacity graphene-related materials for use in the electric vehicle market.
The project will combine William Blythe’s core capabilities in inorganic synthetic chemistry and their graphene-oxide with the specialist experience of The University of Manchester’s Professor Robert Dryfe and the energy storage team at the NGI.
Graphene-based water filtration project progresses and receives funding boost
The Smart Filter project received new Innovate UK funding that follows a previous £700,000 project grant awarded in 2015. The previous grant enabled a two-year project by G2O and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), focused on transferring and scaling up the water filtration technology from laboratory to industry, ensuring the technology is usable with full quality control.
The technology has since been validated at CPI and the new grant will focus on transferring it to large-scale manufacturing. That will include the use of industrial printing technology to manufacture membranes and validate their performance using prototypes and will involve collaboration with a number of UK partner organizations including chemicals manufacturer William Blythe and CPI.
William Blythe to start selling graphene oxide
William Blythe, Uk-based chemicals manufacturer, has announced the addition of graphene oxide to its portfolio of innovative products. According to the company, this step was made possible when the company moved graphene oxide to large lab scale manufacture and reached kilogram capacity production.

William Blythe is currently able to offer graphene oxide as a dispersion in deionised water. The percentage dispersions are agreed upon with customers on an individual basis. WB's current capabilities allow the manufacture of up to 20 kg of powdered graphene oxide equivalent per annum with the intention of increasing to tonnage scale in the next 6 12 months.
