Log 9 Materials was established in 2015 as an IIT Roorkee spin-off to focus on graphene material production and application development.
Log 9 Materials is currently developing graphene-based purification systems, energy storage solutions and graphene quantum dots based LEDs. In September 2018 we posted an update on the company's latest graphene development.

Log 9 develops ultra-fast charging battery technology for EVs
India-based start-up Log 9 has announced the development of its new graphene-enhanced battery for electric vehicles. Log 9 states its Rapid Charging Battery Technology is capable of fully charging in under 15 minutes and that it has a lifetime of over 15 years of use.

Other claims made by Log 9 include up to 5x power which would help in increased load-bearing capacity and acceleration. Additionally, the Company says that it is 5-times safer than lithium-ion batteries in terms of fire-resistance and impact-resistance. Log 9 says that its new batteries would offer a range of up to 70 kilometers for two-wheel EVs and 60-80 kilometers for three-wheel EVs.
Log 9 supplies graphene oil sorbent pads to aid oil spill clean-up in Mauritius
India-based clean-tech startup Log 9 has supplied graphene-enhanced oil absorbent pads 'Sorbene' to clean up a major oil spill off the coast of Mauritius.

A Japanese-firm owned bulk carrier vessel 'MV Wakashio' ran aground on a reef at Pointe d'Esny along Mauritius' south-eastern coastal region on July 25, spilling more than 1,000 tonnes of oil into the Indian Ocean. The spill sparked off fears of an ecological catastrophe.
Log9 Materials bets on graphene-based aluminium fuel cells for future EVs
India-based Log9 Materials believes that the key to better EVs is to focus on energy-generation, instead of energy storage. Log9 Materials says that a car powered by aluminium fuel cells can have a range of 1000 km post which the aluminium plates can be replaced within minutes.
According to Log9, aluminium fuel cells would primarily use three components aluminium, water, and carbon in the form of graphene. In simple words, there’s water between layers of graphene, and when aluminium comes in contact with water, it corrodes releasing energy. Log9 explains that procuring raw materials for aluminium fuel cells is much simpler than those for lithium-ion batteries which use lithium and cobalt, so manufacturing cost can be considerably lower for aluminium fuel cells than lithium-ion battery packs.
Log 9 Materials displays a car that can run on water and air, thanks to a graphene-enhanced battery
Log 9 Materials, an IIT Roorkee spin-off that focuses on graphene material production and application development, has recently exhibited a car named Ranger that runs on air and water at India-UK Future Tech event in India.

Log 9 Materials has reportedly developed a metal-air battery made up of aluminium and water, which will make the eclectic vehicles reduce the burden of charging and petrol prices. The graphene-enhanced battery would only require the users to change aluminium from the battery after every 1000kms.
India's Log 9 Materials develops graphene-based metal-air battery
India-based Log 9 Materials is working on graphene-based metal-air batteries, that in theory may even lead to electric vehicles that run on water.
LOG 9 BATTERY COMPOSITION (LOG 9 MATERIALS)
The metal air batteries use a metal as anode, air (oxygen) as cathode and water as an electrolyte. A graphene rod is used in the air cathode of the batteries. Since Oxygen has to be used as the cathode, the cathode material has to be porous to let the air pass, a property in which graphene excels. According to Akshay Singhal, co-founder of Log 9 Materials, the graphene used in the electrode is able to increase the battery efficiency by five times at one-third the cost.
India-based Log 9 launches graphene-based filtration products
Log 9 Materials, an India-based startup incubated at the TIDES incubation centre at IIT Roorkee, has identified use cases for graphene in energy and filtration and has deployed graphene-based products in these two areas.
A few years ago, the Company reportedly launched a product called PuFF, a graphene-based filter that can be attached to cigarettes to reduce the toxic chemicals from smoking by 50% with the smoker’s user experience not being affected. The product is now being sold by a pharma company under the brand name ‘Filtr’. Recently , Log 9 also launched its Oil Sorbent Pads LSP 20.
India-based Log 9 aims to use graphene to improve the capacity of lead-acid batteries by 30%
Indian start-up Log 9 Materials reports a technological breakthrough using graphene to improve the capacity of lead-acid batteries by 30%. "The life cycle had also increased by 35%", Log 9's CEO and founder stated.
We are close to commercialization and trying to partner up with existing players in the market to cater to different needs of batteries in different applications, i.e operational requirements are quite different for a car battery as compared to a storage battery for solar panel applications, he said. So far the interest has been from domestic players including the defense sector. Some of them are interested for automobile applications, others for solar energy storage, etc".
