Talga and BillerudKorsnäs sign agreement for graphene-enhanced packaging products

Talga Resources has executed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with BillerudKorsnäs, a Swedish multinational packaging company.

The JDA reportedly results from successful test work completed under the Letter of Intent, signed by the parties in August 2018, regarding Talga’s functionalized graphene product, Talphene, used in BillerudKorsnäs fiber and board packaging products.

Terms of the JDA define a structure for the parties to continue development of the packaging technology. Highlights of the JDA include:
  • Ongoing co-development and validation of improved packaging technology incorporating Talphene in BillerudKorsnäs products.
  • Terms for potential commercialization of products and intellectual property ownership.
  • Commercialization of successful products can be facilitated through BillerudKorsnäs’ existing global industrial clients.

The incorporation of Talphene into BillerudKorsnäs packaging is designed to enable a range of performance and ecological benefits such as natural fiber replacement of plastic packaging.

Talga's Managing Director, Mr. Mark Thompson: Packaging is a high volume application where graphene can make a material impact to performance, functionality and recycling. We are excited to be advancing our relationship with a global industry leader such as BillerudKorsnäs to enable greener and innovative packaging solutions with our graphene technology.

BillerudKorsnäs Executive VP Innovation, Dr Magnus Wikström: Talga’s advanced solutions fit very well with BillerudKorsnäs’ vision of challenging conventional packaging for a sustainable future. We are happy for this collaboration and look forward to jointly explore new possibilities together with the Talga team
