First graphene reports record quarter earnings of $359,000 AUD

First Graphene (FGR) says that its fourth quarter (FY22) revenues reached a record 359,000 AUD. Its full-year (FY2022) revenues increased 111% to $723,000 AUD.

First Graphene says that its strong performance in the last quarter was driven by several significant orders for its graphene materials, and also new application/research development services. The composites and plastics segments contributed 46% of its revenues in the quarter, followed by cement/concrete (31%). Coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers contributed 12%.

Researchers develop graphene-based same-time, same-position biomolecule isolation and sensing

Researchers from the University of Massachusetts Amherst have demonstrated an advance in using graphene for electrokinetic biosample processing and analysis, that could allow lab-on-a-chip devices to become smaller and achieve results faster.

The team developed devices that incorporate microelectrodes made of monolayer graphene. They found that the electrolysis stability over time for graphene microelectrodes is >103× improved compared to typical microfabricated inert-metal microelectrodes. Through transverse isoelectric focusing between graphene microelectrodes, within minutes, specific proteins can be separated and concentrated to scales of ∼100 μm.

Researchers use graphene nanobuds as a novel anode material for lithium ion batteries

Researchers from Tecnologico Nacional de México, McGill University and Centro de Investigacion en Materiales Avanzados S.C. have examined the use of Graphene nanobuds (GNBs), formed on copper (Cu) foil via chemical vapor deposition, as an anode in lithium-ion batteries.

Producing high-performance anode materials that possess excellent specific capacities and extended cyclic ability is currently one of the key development areas in lithium-ion batteries. The energy storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries heavily depends on the anode materials used and their structure. Carbonaceous substances remain the anode materials of choice because of the strong attraction between lithium (Li) and graphitic carbon. Graphene possesses a large capacity to accommodate lithium ions in its framework because of its significant surface area and excellent electrical conductivity.

Graphene assists in imaging of small organic molecules

A University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign research team, led by Pinshane Huang, used graphene to accelerate imaging techniques to visualize structures of small molecules clearly — a process once perceived as impossible. Their discovery could have vast potential in improving many fields - from plastics to pharmaceuticals.

The team’s efforts show the molecule’s atomic structure, allowing researchers to understand how it reacts, learn its chemical processes and see how to synthesize its chemical compounds.
