Graphite mining companies

Alabama Graphite, a Canadian based company, is conducting graphite exploration and development at two graphite mines in Alabama, USA. 

In March 2015, Alabama Graphite announced that it has found naturally occurring flake graphene at its Coosa Property in Alabama, USA. The company found several graphene types: few-layer graphene (2-5 layers), multi-layer graphene (2-10 layers), and graphite nanoplates (less than 100 nm thick).

American Graphite Technologies (AGT) is a mineral exploration and technology development company. AGT has 100% ownership of 100 mineral claims in Quebec, Canada (close by to Focus Graphite's proven graphite resource). AGT is also involved with graphene related research.

In March 2013 AGT and Cheap Tubes announced that have successfully produced graphene paper test samples, but the companies are no longer collaborating. In September 2013 AGT launched a project with Ukraine's Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology to develop graphene-based working material for 3D printing.

Anson Resources (previously known as Mayan Iron Corporation) is a Western Australian based mining exploration company that was formed in 2009 and listed on the ASX in July 2010. The company’s primary goal is to discover and develop precious metal deposits. The Company is based in West Perth, Western Australia.

The Company has three core projects, two in Western Australia and one in Nevada, USA. The Western Australian projects are still in the exploration stage, and AR continues to focus on developing and delivering high grade, high value resources. The USA project is a share in Nevada gold exploration.

Archer Materials, formerly called Archer Exploration, develops mineral resources and its vision is to develop and integrate advanced materials for use in reliable energy, human health, and quantum technologies for the betterment of society.

Archer's business activities span the development of a number of critical minerals and materials, including graphite, cobalt, manganese, copper, and magnesite from exploration through to development and commercialization.

China Carbon Graphite Group, headquartered in Shanghai (with the main office in the US), manufactures and sells graphite-based products in China.

First Graphene (FGR), previously First Graphite and in the past was also MRL, aims to become a high quality graphite miner from its Sri Lankan mine prospects, and a graphene producer. The company uses an electrochemical exfoliation to produce high quality graphene from the mined Sri Lankan graphite.

Focus Graphite (previously Focus Metals) is a mid-tier junior graphite company, mine developer and technology company based in Ottawa, Canada. It is the owner of the highest-grade (roughly 16%) technology graphite resource in the world (at Lac Knife in Quebec).

The company's goal is to become an industry leader by becoming the lowest-cost producer of technology-grade graphite.

Gratomic is focused on mining and commercialization of graphite products – specifically graphene-based nano material that can be used for a wide range of mass market elastomer and polymer products, including the global tire market. Gratomic is also developing other industrial applications such as lubricants, special rust, and proof coatings.

Hexagon Resources is an Australia-based exploration company focusing on the delivery of exceptional high purity and highly crystalline flake graphite for use in new technologies. The primary focus for Hexagon is the development of the McIntosh Flake Graphite Project in the East Kimberley, Western Australia.

Leading Edge Materials, formerly Flinders Resources, acquired all of the issued and outstanding shares of Tasman Metals via a plan of arrangement in August 2016.

LEM is a Canadian public company (TSX.v:LEM; OTCQB: LEMIF), but its principal assets of are located in Scandinavia. LEM’s core investments are matched to high growth markets, linked to the global shift to low-carbon energy generation and energy storage. LEM's assets and research focus are towards the raw materials for Li-ion batteries (graphite, lithium, high purity aluminium); materials for high thermal efficiency building products (graphite, silica, nepheline); and materials that improve the efficiency of energy generation (dysprosium, neodymium, hafnium).

The company is the 100% owner of the Woxna graphite mine and processing facility located in Sweden. The fully permitted Woxna facility was restarted in July 2014 and produced natural flake graphite concentrate until spring 2015.

Lomiko Metals Inc. (TSXV:LMR, OTCQX:LMRMF, FSE:DH8B) is a Canada-based junior miner at the exploration-stage.

Lomiko is invested in graphene technologies through Graphene 3D Labs and Graphene ESD.

Mason Graphite is a Canadian mining company focused on the exploration and development of its 100% owned Lac Gueret graphite project in northeastern Quebec.

In January 2014, Mason Graphite acquired 40% of graphene R&D company NanoXplore. This was later diluted to 31%. In September 2016 Mason Graphite announced a $28.8 private placement and its intention to increase its stake in NanoXplore.

Matrass C-Graphene Science-Technology Group is an industrial entity engaging in exploration and development of mineral resources, down-stream processing, fabrication and application of graphene, and R&D of high technology related to the graphite industry.

Northern Graphite Corporation is a Canadian mine development company. It's main asset is the Bissett Creek graphite project located 100km east of North Bay, Ontario. The company was involved with Graphene research back in 2011.

In 2023 Northern said that it acquired an ownership stake at NeoGraf Solutions.

Saint Jean is a publicly traded junior mining exploration company with graphite mining claims on five 100% Company-owned properties located in the province of Quebec in Canada. The five properties include the Walker property, a past producing mine, the Wallingford property, the St. Jovite property, East Miller and Clot Property. The Company also holds the Page graphite property in Ontario.

Zentek Ltd (formerly known as ZEN Graphene Solutions and before that, Zenyatta Ventures) is a mineral exploration and development company based in Ontario, Canada. Zentek is developing the Albany Graphite Deposit – a rare hydrothermal graphite deposit with the potential to produce a natural, high-purity graphite that may compete in high-technology markets traditionally reserved for synthetic graphite.

The company's high crystallinity graphite can be upgraded without the use of aggressive acid (HF) or high temperature thermal treatment. Zentek has developed an environmentally friendly metallurgical process flowsheet that consists of grinding, flotation and caustic treatment using sodium hydroxide. The company states that it has been able to achieve an extraordinary carbon purity result of >99.9 percent in bench-scale tests, using this proprietary and environmentally friendly purification process.
